We had finally reached the last stop of our tour, Catania! Catania is the second largest city in Sicily and is located on the east of the island. In the morning we toured the Museum of the 1943 Landings in Sicily. We learned about Sicily’s role in WWII.
After our museum visit we were able to walk around the city. In the city center there is a large fountain of an elephant. This fountain is called "Liotru's Fountain" and it is made out of lava rock from Mt. Etna. As a goodbye present Mari gave each of the families a small elephant trinket modeled after Lio.
Later that evening we toasted to new friends before having our last dinner altogether.
The memories from this tour will last us a lifetime. The people we met, the foods we ate, and the places we went are something that we will always cherish. The experience that we had on our Rick Steves' Best of Sicily Tour is unmatched. Plus, being able to experience Sicily with both of our families made it even more special. We can't wait to take our next Rick Steves' Tour this summer for our honeymoon! We are looking forward to returning to Europe in July. We will be going on the Best of Eastern Europe in 14 Days and then the Best of Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna in 8 Days! Until then, ciao!
